International Baccalaureate Program (Ridgeview High School)
The Diploma Program is a comprehensive and balanced two-year curriculum and assessment system that requires students to study courses across all disciplines. Within this structured framework, the Diploma Program provides a great deal of flexibility, accommodating student interest and abilities. Through careful subject selection, students may tailor their course of studies to meet their needs. Regardless of the subject selection, all students will explore the connections between the six major subject areas, will study each subject through an international perspective, will reflect critically on what it means to be a "knower," will pursue one subject in great detail through independent research, and will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in local and com-munity outreach. Assessment of student achievement happens in a variety of ways throughout the course of the two-year program. It includes assessment of student work both by outside examiners as well as the students' own teachers. All assessment undergoes careful re-view or moderation to ensure that a common, international standard is applied equally to the work of students around the world. For these reasons, the IB Diploma is recognized by colleges and universities around the world as a university entry creden-tial. Among North American colleges and universities, the IB Diploma is recognized as a superior education, preparing students to succeed at post-secondary institutions. Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment allows eligible high school students to enroll in post=secondary courses for which the student earns credit towards high school graduation while at the same time earning credit toward a college degree or vocational certificate. Participating students are exempt from the payment of registration, matriculation, and laboratory fees. All 28 public community colleges in Florida participate in dual enrollment. The dual enrollment program serves a broad range of high achieving students, not just the top academic per-formers in a school. The State Board of Education, based on the recommendations of the Articulation Coordinating Committee, recently identified the specific dual enrollment courses that meet high school graduation requirements and assigned a specific amount of high school credit that must be granted for each dual enrollment course. These courses must be accepted by all high schools in Florida in accordance with the State Board of Education list. In addition, school districts offering dual enrollment through a local articulation agreement must provide information regarding post-secondary dual enrollment courses that meet high school graduation requirements.
